Texts Hoax Beware!
Just 6PM this day, my brother-in-law received a text message about SuperTyphoon Pepeng to hit Metro Manila by 9PM. According to PAG-ASA this is not true. However, at the time when we received it in Marikina, we thought it to be true. In situations where text messages cannot be cross-validated with other mediums of information, critical news like that can cause panic and disorder, especially for people in calamity areas.
My lesson learned from that experience, always have a portable transistor radio in times of crisis. Texts messages can be handy, but may not be a reliable source of information, even if it was forwarded by people we thoroughly trust.
