All because of a bear
A.A. Milne’s name might not be familiar to so many people, but his creation certainly is. Winnie the Pooh, the bear that became the focal point and subject of Milne’s stories, is a character and an icon that’s been loved by generations throughout the world. Aside from children’s books and animated films, Pooh has spawned books such as The Tao of Pooh and songs such as Kenny Loggins’s Return to Pooh Corner.
This TIME photo essay of Pooh’s history deserves a look because it not only shows the birth of an idea; it also demonstrates how a seemingly trivial thing (your son’s teddy bear named Winnie) can be the source of so much wealth.
So the next time you’re in need of a great idea or the next big thing… You might want to start rummaging through your kids’ toy box.
