Environmental Scanning: Navigating Through Tough Times.
The recent Typhoons Ondoy (KETSANA) & Pepeng (PARMA) has left Luzon paralyzed, severely affecting our food security. According to our DA Chief, 16K hectares crops in Cagayan were lost to ‘Pepeng.’ Even if the Philippines is ready to import rice and other food items, until the end of the year, we are not sure if prices will remain stable. In such situations, businesses should brace themselves for tougher times ahead by keeping themselves informed of what is happening around them. In business jargon, this is often referred to as Environmental Scanning. A process for monitoring an organization’s internal and external environments for clues to change that could mean new threats and opportunities.
